Why is my MyID account being disabled?

Your MyID is your key to access many campus IT services at the University of Georgia, including UGAMail, wireless networks and more.

Once you leave UGA, you are no longer eligible to use campus IT services, and you will lose access after a period of time.

Services you will lose access to include:

You may get to keep your access for a short time after you leave UGA, depending on whether you were a student, faculty or staff member, or an affiliate account owner.

Students

Approximately one year after you graduate or leave UGA, you will receive an email notifying you that your MyID and UGAMail email address will be disabled, and you will no longer have access to them.

You do not have to do anything to ensure that your account access is removed. EITS periodically disables expired accounts to prevent unauthorized access to campus IT services.

Once your account access is removed, you will no longer be able to access UGAMail, campus wireless networks and other services that require a MyID and password. Forwarding your UGAMail to another address will no longer work.

If you know you are graduating soon or planning to leave UGA, there are a few steps you can take to prepare:

    1. Establish a non-UGA email address: We recommend using a non-UGA email address when applying for jobs, graduate school, or professional school to ensure you do not lose important emails and contacts.
    2. Migrate emails and contacts: If you have emails or contacts from your UGAMail account that you wish to keep, you must migrate these to another email account before your UGAMail account is no longer available. Instructions for migrating emails and contacts can be found here.
    3. Update important accounts: Change the primary contact email address on any important accounts you may have from your UGAMail email address to your non-UGA email address.
    4. Save your digital diploma: Your digital diploma will be issued by the Office of the Registrar to your UGAMail email address approximately 8-10 weeks following your official graduation date.

Once you have graduated, you can access the UGA Career Center's job posting board, Handshake, by establishing an alumni account.

You can also stay in touch with the UGA Alumni Association by updating your information at alumni.uga.edu/myinfo.

Faculty and Staff

If you are a UGA faculty or staff member, your MyID account has no guarantees attached to it.

Once you leave UGA for another job, your MyID will be disabled and UGAMail account will be deleted.

Sometimes, departments will request that an ex-employee's MyID be terminated immediately. These requests are handled on a case-by-case basis and require verification in order to process.

Retired Faculty and Staff

UGA retirees are able to keep their UGA MyID and UGAMail after retirement.  This practice allows retirees to continue to access some UGA  services  after  retiring.

However, retirees must log into their account at ugamail.uga.edu at least once a year to keep the account active.

UGA retirees who do not access their accounts for a year or more will have their accounts deactivated. Retirees with inactive accounts will receive notices prior to deactivation; if they wish to keep their MyID and UGAMail active, they will have the opportunity to log in and have their account excluded from deactivation.

Retired UGA faculty and staff may retain their MyID and UGAMail accounts if they are actively accessing their accounts. However, they are no longer eligible to keep Office 365 applications and products connected to their @uga.edu email address.

Additionally, their UGAMail box size will be reduced from 100 GB to 25 GB upon retirement. Retirees should keep their UGAMail box under 25 GB to prevent sending and receiving issues due to a full mailbox.

Affiliates and other MyID holders

Affiliate MyIDs are disabled once all active and qualifying UGA affiliations expire. EITS cannot update your UGA affiliation. Any changes must come through an authoritative system, such as OneUSG Connect. To learn more about who qualifies for a UGA affiliation, please visit the OneSource Faculty and Staff guide.
